School Role

The influence of school goes beyond the classroom and includes normative messages from peers and adults regarding food and eating patterns. Students are more likely to develop knowledge, positive attitudes, skills and healthy eating behaviours when healthy eating is promoted through a comprehensive school health program.

A comprehensive school nutrition program empowers students not only with the knowledge, attitudes and skills required to make healthy food choices but also the environment, motivation, services and supports needed to develop and maintain healthy eating behaviours.
